New York Attorney General Leticia James is seeking to dissolve the National Rifle Association (NRA) and is alleging that the organization, which was formed in New York State, has illegally used donations. The suit is has been filed in the New York State Supreme Court. She accuses the organization of diverting $64 million in contributions for the personal use of its leaders. According to the suit, senior leadership of the NRA squandered millions in donations on personal trips, private jets and expensive meals. The suit argues that four executives, including CEO Wayne LaPierre, shouldn’t be permitted to ever again serve on the board of a New York charity. The organization claims the suit is merely a reflection of the AG’s personal views on gun ownership, which the AG denies.
